Water Aerobics

Myers and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary on Friday. I remember we went to TGI Friday's on what happened to be our 6 month anniversary and they asked us if we were celebrating anything special. We did not go there to celebrate anything; we were just hungry so it was strange that they asked. Anyway, we told them it was our 6 month anniversary and they brought us a free ice cream. I remember thinking to myself at the time that once we get to five years that will be a real milestone (unlike 6 months) and we will definitely have to celebrate.

Myers got us reservations at St. Martin's Wine Bistro on Greenville. It was delicious, romantic and a lot of fun. We sat at a tiny little circle booth that forced us to sit next to each other instead of across. We told funny stories and talked about all of our wonderful friends. I had a great time and was so glad to spend the evening with my wonderful husband.

Moving on from the cheesy schmoopy schmoopy talk....

I renewed my commitment to exercising last week and have been doing a pretty good job all week. Saturday morning I was extremely tired and sore from my previous workouts but still wanted to do something active. I thought it would be interesting to go to my gym's aquacise class. I have wanted to go several times in the past but could never muster the courage to actually go. First of all, I don't have any sporty swimsuits. I only have beach-type 2 piece swimsuits. Also, when I think of water aerobics I think of old ladies doing synchronized swimming. With my sore muscles preventing me from doing any running or weight lifting, I thought I would go ahead and give it a try.

I showed up a few minutes early and sat sheepishly near the pool. With 3 minutes until class time there were exactly zero other people there. Not even the instructor. Then, a rather rotund woman walked in and sat near me. About 2 minutes later, another rotund woman came in and sat down right next to me. Eventually there were 8 of us. Only 2 of the 8 were under the age of 55 and only 2 of the 8 were under about 300 pounds. Our instructor was a spring chicken at the age (I'm guessing) of 67. Here are some of the highlights of the class:

1. We made a whirlpool around 2 people in the center of the "circle" while they did water jumping jacks.
2. We had to put a noodle on the bottom of the pool and then walk from one end of the noodle to the other. I fell off my noodle and it popped up to the surface and I splashed all over the place. Quite embarrassing.
3. We had partner chariot races and my partner and I came in last. :( I am going to blame the loss on her.

Overall it was an interesting experience to say the least.

Juice

The trip to Colorado was great. We got to hang out with a baby, see some snow, ski (a little) and of course eat a lot of food. I made sure to drink a lot of water to prevent the Colorado dehydration/dizziness thing and was successful. Although I did have to pee a lot.

Anna and Peter recently purchased a juicer which we got to enjoy whilst in Fort Collins. We had straight up orange juice followed by carrot/apple juice. I decided right at that moment that I NEEDED a juicer. Yesterday I went to the store and bought a wonderful juicer and a plethora of fruits and vegetables. My first concoction was strawberry and blueberry juice. It was good. My next concoction was cucumber and apple juice. The cucumber smell was really potent so I mixed it with the strawberry/blueberry mixture and it wasn't too bad. I am hoping to use my new juicer often although I have already found it to be quite the chore to clean. I wasn't expecting there to be so much goop left in the pulp tank. I am about to go make a pitcher of orange juice for tomorrow morning.

I finished one of the most disturbing books I have read in a long time. Fish: A Memoir of A Boy in a Man's Prison was very very graphic about prison happenings. And yes, the "happenings" that you are picturing right now are the happenings to which I refer. The book was well written and honest but hard to get through. I am now reading a trusty Dean Koontz novel which will have to be put on hold for the week as I rifle through books about the history of Presbyterianism. Our church's confirmation classes start on Sunday and I am teaching the first lesson. I need to brush up on my history.

Myers and I are 2 episodes away from completing the HBO series Band of Brothers. It is great but the episodes are long and I know with only 2 to go, we are going to end up finishing them both tonight.

Quote of the Week: "Take it to the Limit" - Matt Forney

Current TV Shows: I am all caught up with my shows from our vacation. G's to Gents is back and better than ever. I am recording NBC's Kings. Not sure if it will be good or not.

Off to juice.

Resolutions

Since it has been 8 months since my last post, I thought I should make an update. My initial New Year's resolutions were to read 50 books, save money, get down to my lowest adult weight and something else that I can't remember. It may have had to do with push ups. So far the only one that is going well is the saving money part. I have only lost 4 pounds and have only read 4 books.

Maybe a good resolution would be to try and update my blog at least once a week. Ok, let's start small and go for once a month.

On Saturday I am going to Colorado with Myers, Laura and Matt. Myers is sick and I am trying to nurse him back to health. So far my "nursing" has consisted of buying Sprite Zero and Gatorade for him at the gas station and sitting here while he tries to rest. I would like to think I am a good nurse so far. If my help has not completely healed Myers by tomorrow morning I will insist he go to the doctor. No one wants to be sick for a vacation.

I realized in the last few days that I have weekend plans for the next 8 weeks. That is highly uncommon for me. Usually I have nothing going on. Our trip to Colorado should be a good kickoff to the two months of busyness. I look forward to seeing baby David and babies Foghorn and Leghorn. I think I will like Leghorn the best of all the chickens.

Tonight I was going to do a packing "trial run" to make sure I have everything necessary for a ski trip. Instead I think I will make some spaghetti and watch tv.

I will check in next week (hopefully).

Current TV Shows:
American Idol is the only new show on tonight. We have "Hard Time" on the DVR and need to watch another episode of Band of Brothers.

Broken Elbow

As of 2 weeks ago, I had never broken a bone in my body. Now I have. I was rollerblading on the steep residential roads of town and fell, breaking my elbow. Most people seem to be more interested in the fact that I was rollerblading than the shocking news that I have broken a bone. I got a ridiculous cast which I am no longer wearing because I hate it. I knew at some point that I would fall and break something while rollerblading but it was a good 15 year run. I think I have officially retired.

Needless to say, the new injury has negatively impacted my reading speed. I just started Uncle Tom's Cabin and have to put it down every few minutes to rest my arm, dumb. 45 pages down, 612 to go. Yuck.

Current TV shows:
Shear Genius, Last Comic Standing, So You Think You Can Dance.

Laura and Trish are still nerdy.

Something Wicked This Way Sucks

Ok, my friend let me borrow Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury because she remembers reading it when she was still in school and really enjoying it.

I thought this book was published in Sucktown.

The writing was all over the place with random important action sentences interspersed among way too much imagery. Charles' speech to the boys in the library reminded me of someone who is in the late stages of alzheimers and has also spent the afternoon smoking from a crack pipe. Why is this man such a Debbie Downer? I found this character to be really out of place and poorly developed. For some reason I had trouble keeping Jim and Will straight. I didn't feel like Bradbury did a thorough job explaining why Jim REALLY wanted to get on the merry-go-round even after everything that happened. Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention but this book seemed to jump all over the place and yet still be boring.

First Day

I love to read but I have not been reading enough this year. My New Year's resolution was to read the entire Bible which has been taking up most of my reading time over the last few months. In order to get myself back in gear I am going to attempt to join some reading challenges. Two of my friends do the online reading challenges and I told them they were nerds. I guess I am a nerd too! My favorite books are mysteries and books about prisons. Maybe I will try to branch out into some lighter topics.

I already feel pretty nerdy "blogging." Who, exactly am I writing this for? I don't know. I guess I will find out.

Anyway, if you are reading this, hello. Leave me a comment.

Karen. What?
